Dr. Philomena Marinaccio is the first author of this paper. She holds a Doctorate in Special Education and Reading from University of Miami, Florida. Trained and certified in Reading K-12, ESL (English as a Second Language), Early Childhood, and Special Education. Dr. Marinaccio has approximately 30 years of experience in the classroom. She has taught Reading and Special Education on the elementary, middle, secondary, and the University levels. For the past five years Dr. Marinaccio has been a faculty member in Department of Teacher Education Teacher at Florida Atlantic University and has taught courses in reading on the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has conducted research in special education and reading. She has presented numerous papers at national conferences. She is the principal investigator of a NCLB (No Child Left Behind) Grant to provide a tutoring intervention for struggling readers in five school sites in Palm Beach County. Her responsibilities as P.I. include overseeing fifty undergraduate and graduate students who are tutoring struggling readers five site managers, and graduate students mentoring the tutors and analyzing the data.
